About Photo Frame Generator
A border or matte around a picture, which does more than decorate: it separates the image from whatever is behind it, and on a white page a white-edged photograph otherwise bleeds into the background. Framing is free, runs online, and never uploads the picture. The result carries no watermark, and you were not asked to sign up for it.

What a border is actually doing
It is not decoration so much as separation. A photograph with pale edges placed on a white page has no boundary, so the eye cannot tell where the image stops and the layout begins, and the composition quietly falls apart. A few pixels of contrasting border restores the edge. This is the same reason galleries mount prints on a mat rather than hanging them bare.
Even borders, uneven mats
A border of equal thickness on all four sides is the safe choice for anything digital. Physical framing traditionally makes the bottom margin slightly deeper, because an optically centred image sits a little above true centre — a trick worth knowing if the export is destined for print rather than a feed.
What it does not do
- The frame becomes part of the image and cannot be removed afterwards. Keep the original.
- A border adds pixels, so the exported dimensions are larger than the source — worth knowing where an exact size is required.
Questions people ask
- What border colour should I choose?
- White or near-white for a gallery look on a dark background, and something dark on a light page. The purpose is separation, so the border should contrast with the surface the image sits on rather than with the photograph.
- Does the frame change the aspect ratio?
- Yes, unless the border is proportional on all sides. An even border grows both dimensions, so a square image stays square while a 16:9 image moves slightly towards square.
