About Remove Audio
Stripping the soundtrack from a video and keeping the picture. Usually because a screen recording caught background conversation, or a clip needs to autoplay silently on a page. Stripping the sound is free, done online in this tab. The video is never uploaded, the output carries no watermark, and you will not be asked to register.
How to use it
- Choose the clipIt is decoded inside the tab you already have open, so the footage stays where it started.
- Remove the audio trackThe video stream is left untouched, so the picture is not re-encoded.
- Save the silent versionYou get a second file; the one with sound is still sitting where it was, in case you want it.
Why this is fast and lossless
A video file is a container holding separate streams. Removing the audio drops one stream and rewrites the container, leaving the video data byte-for-byte as it was. Nothing is re-encoded, so there is no generational quality loss and the operation takes about as long as copying the file.
What it does not do
- The audio is gone from the output permanently. Keep the original if there is any chance you want it.
- Clip length is limited by what the tab can hold, and by nothing we impose on top of that.
Questions people ask
- Will removing the audio reduce the video quality?
- No. The video stream is copied rather than re-encoded, so the picture is identical. The file gets smaller by exactly the size of the audio that was removed.
- Can I get the sound back afterwards?
- Not from the silent file — the track is not in it. The version with sound is still on your disk, and that is the one to go back to.
