About Flashcard Generator
Turning a list of terms and definitions into cards you can work through, and exporting the deck so it is not trapped in one browser on one machine. The making of the cards is itself part of the revision. Free online, nothing to register. Your cards are created locally and stay on the machine that made them.
How to use it

Why recall beats rereading
Retrieving an answer from memory strengthens it far more than reading it again does, and this is one of the better-established findings in the study of learning. Rereading feels more productive because it feels fluent; the difficulty of recall is precisely what makes it work. A card you get wrong has done more for you than a page you reread.
What it does not do
- No spaced repetition scheduling. Cards are not resurfaced at increasing intervals, which is the feature dedicated applications exist for.
- Cards live in your browser until exported. Clearing site data loses them.
- Flashcards suit facts, terms and definitions. They are poor for anything requiring an argument or a method.
Questions people ask
- Does this do spaced repetition?
- No. It builds and runs a deck; it does not schedule reviews at expanding intervals. If you want scheduling, export the deck and import it into an application built for it.
- How many cards should a deck have?
- Small enough to finish in one sitting — twenty to thirty is manageable. A deck of two hundred gets abandoned, and several small decks by topic beat one large one.
