About Study Timer

Timed work sessions with breaks between them, kept running across a page reload so that a refresh or an accidental tab switch does not lose the session. The structure is the point: a fixed period of work is easier to start than an open-ended one. Free with no account at all. The timer runs inside your browser, and no session of yours is logged elsewhere.

How to use it

  1. Set the session and break lengthsTwenty-five minutes of work and five of break is the common default, and there is nothing sacred about it.
  2. Start, and leave it aloneThe timer survives a reload, so the tab can be closed and reopened without losing where you were.
  3. Take the break properlyThe break is part of the method rather than an interruption to it. Working through it defeats the arrangement.

Why a fixed period helps at all

The difficulty is usually starting, not continuing, and an open-ended task offers no obvious moment to begin. A short fixed commitment is small enough to agree to, and the work generally continues past the point where the timer stops mattering. The break matters for the same reason in reverse: knowing one is coming makes the session easier to sustain.

What it does not do

  • The session is held by this browser alone. Clear site data and it resets; open the site elsewhere and it is not there.
  • No statistics are collected or sent anywhere, so there is no history to review beyond the current session.
  • A timer cannot make a task interesting. It only removes the question of when to start.

Questions people ask

Does the timer keep running if I close the tab?
The session state survives a reload and a reopened tab. A browser that has been fully closed for a long period will not have been counting while it was gone.
Should I use twenty-five minutes?
It is a reasonable place to start and not a rule. Deep work often suits longer blocks of fifty minutes or so; fragmented revision suits shorter ones. Adjust until the session ends with you wanting to continue.
