How to split pdf

Three steps, no account, and nothing to install.

  1. Open your PDF

    Drop the file onto the page. It is read locally and its page count appears immediately, so you can see what you are working with before choosing anything.

  2. Choose how to split

    Split at fixed intervals, split into equal parts, or enter explicit page ranges such as 1-4, 5-12, 13-. Ranges are inclusive and can be listed in any order.

  3. Check the preview

    Each output is listed with the pages it will contain. Adjust the ranges until the split matches the document you actually have, rather than the one you assumed.

  4. Split and download

    Press Split. Each part is produced as its own PDF, and several parts arrive together as a ZIP so you are not saving files one at a time.

A PDF often arrives as one file when it is really several things: a bank statement covering four months, a scanned stack where three separate documents went through the feeder together, a report whose appendix is the only part anyone needs. Splitting separates those into their own files by page range, without uploading anything.

Split PDF: common questions

Does splitting change the pages themselves?
No. Pages are copied into the new documents exactly as they were. Text remains selectable, images keep their resolution, and nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed.
Can I extract a single page?
Yes — enter that page as its own range. If pulling out a few specific pages is all you need, the extract-pages tool is more direct, because it produces one document rather than a set.
What happens to bookmarks that point into a split-off section?
Bookmarks that point at pages inside a part are kept and remapped. Bookmarks pointing at pages that ended up in a different file are dropped, because a link to a page that is no longer in the document is worse than no link.
Is there a limit on file size?
There is no server limit, because there is no server. Very large scanned documents are bounded by your device memory; on a typical laptop, files of several hundred megabytes split without trouble.
Can I split a scanned PDF?
Yes. Splitting works on page boundaries and does not care whether a page holds text or a scanned image. The image quality of a scan is untouched.
How do I write an open-ended range?
Leave the end off: 13- means page 13 to the end of the document. This is useful when you know where a section starts but have not counted how far it runs, which is the usual situation with a long statement.
