About Loop Video
Repeating a short clip a set number of times and saving it as one longer file, so it plays through anywhere rather than depending on a player honouring a loop attribute. Looping is free. It runs online here rather than on a server, which keeps your file off the wire entirely; nothing is watermarked, and no account is asked for.
How to use it
- Open the clipShort clips work best; the output length is the original multiplied by the count.
- Set how many times it should playThe resulting duration is shown before you commit to it.
- Export the looped fileOne continuous video assembled locally, ready to hand to a platform that ignores loop attributes.
Why a baked-in loop is sometimes the only option
A player looping a clip is free and adds no bytes, but it depends on the player honouring the request. Embedded video in a slide deck, a file sent to a client, an upload to a platform that autoplays once — none of those give you that control. Repeating the frames into the file itself is heavier and works everywhere, which is the whole trade.
What it does not do
- Output size grows with the repeat count. Ten repeats of a ten-megabyte clip is a hundred-megabyte file.
- A loop is only seamless if the clip was cut to loop. A visible jump at the join is in the source rather than in the repetition.
- In practice a phone runs out of room long before a laptop does, and that is the real ceiling.
Questions people ask
- Why not just use the loop attribute?
- Use it where you control the player — it costs nothing and no file grows. Baking the loop in is for the places you do not control: a platform that ignores the attribute, a slide deck, or a file being handed to someone else.
- Why is there a visible jump at the loop point?
- Because the last frame and the first frame do not match. Trimming the clip so the motion carries across the join is the fix, and it has to happen before looping.
