Instructions

How to add watermark

Three steps, no account, and nothing to install.

  1. Add the PDF

Drop your file in. It is read locally, which matters here — the documents people watermark are usually the ones they are most careful about.

  2. Write the mark

Enter the text: DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, a recipient name, a date, or anything else. Short marks read better at an angle across a page than long sentences do.

  3. Set the appearance

Choose rotation, size, colour and opacity. Around 20% opacity is usually the point where the mark is unmistakable and the text underneath is still comfortable to read.

  4. Apply and download

Stamp every page and save the result. The watermark becomes part of the page content in the new file.

Overview

About add watermark

A watermark marks intent. It tells a reader that a document is a draft and not the final version, that a copy was issued to a specific person, or that a file is not meant to circulate. This tool stamps text across every page of a PDF, with control over the wording, angle, size and transparency, so the mark is visible without making the page unreadable.

Capabilities

What it does

  • Every page, consistentlyOne pass stamps the whole document, at the same position and angle throughout.
  • Readable by designOpacity and size are yours to set, so the mark is visible without burying the content.
  • Vector textThe mark is drawn as text rather than an image: sharp at any zoom, and negligible in file size.
  • Nothing uploadedThe documents people watermark are usually the sensitive ones, so the file is never sent anywhere.

Your files stay with you

Add watermark runs entirely inside this browser tab. The file you choose is read into your device's memory, processed there, and handed straight back to you — the bytes never cross the network, so there is no upload to intercept, no copy to retain and no retention policy to interpret.

You do not have to take that on trust. Open your browser developer tools, select the Network tab, and use the tool above: no request carries your document.

Answers

Add watermark: common questions

Can the watermark be removed by someone else?
Yes, with effort. A watermark is drawn into the page like any other content, and someone determined can edit it out. Treat it as a clear statement of intent and a deterrent, not as a security control — if a document must not be redistributed, the protection is in how you share it, not in a stamp.
Will the watermark cover the text underneath?
Not at a sensible opacity. The mark is drawn over the page with transparency, so text stays readable through it. If a document has to remain fully legible, lower the opacity or reduce the size.
Can I watermark only some pages?
The mark is applied to every page, which is usually what a watermark is for — a mark on only some pages invites the question of what the unmarked pages mean. To mark a subset, extract those pages, watermark them, and merge them back.
Can I use an image or a logo instead of text?
This tool stamps text. Text stays crisp at any zoom and adds almost nothing to the file size, whereas an image watermark is resolution-dependent and grows the document on every page.
Does the text stay selectable?
The watermark is drawn as page content and can be selected along with the rest of the page. The original text underneath is unaffected and remains searchable.
